Best Ways To Advertise Products / e-Commerce sites

Hello

Just wondered if anybody had any useful tips or experiences of advertising their products and e-commerce sites. Having a website is one thing but what are the best ways of generating traffic to your sites and converting customers to sales. I seem to get e-mails through on a daily basis (usually from the USA) of people trying to sell me traffic generation software, affiliate marketing search engine optimisation stuff etc but all this seems a bit to technical for a newbie. Can anyone confirm whether this is the way to go or whether there is an easier way to start generating sales, promoting, advertising? Not being lazy but just one to be sure my effort is focused in the right area.

I think that there is already a thread or two on the forums where this is asked and people have given their tips. Basically though, it is all about thinkig up marketing plans for your business, as may as possible and putting them into practice often, getting your website ame out there, to family and friends, o business cards on flyers, brochures, boards in shop windows, free newspaper ads, school fairs, school magazines, (not if lingerie or adult though :shock:

), basically everywhere you can advertise you should advertise.
On the net, there are directories for a start.
You shouldn't buy traffic - it is untargetted, therefore won't get you sales - you need targetted traffic.
When you have looked at seo and are ready to start link building, this is what will start getting your site noticed, the more links you get - the more over time your site will climb up on the search engies, the more traffic you will gain. The more targetted traffic - the more sales.

Absolutely, they can be. There are many fantastic and fruitful ways to advertise a business, and the trick is to focus on one area at a time, study it, research it, find out what works, and then implement the strategies into your own business, for something that works.

Then start your research on a different area of promotion, and before you know it, you will have a systematic procedure of different marketing strategies that you can focus on daily.

I agree, there are many many different methods of getting your site out there and drawing traffic, yes, social etworking sites, twitter, stumble upon, dig, article sites, free ad sites, blogging, blog-writing on others blogs, shop window advertising and a myriad of other different ways - to be hoest, thinking up new ways to advertise is half the fun of it, what better way to break the day to day monotony than thiking up ew ways and ew ideas and putting them into practice. Putting aside some time each day for thinking about new strategies and putting them into practice will pay dividends, as will spending an equal amount of time per day o your seo which will pay off in the long term.

Just remember, put in your time and efforts and you will reap the benefits - sit and wait for it to come to you and you will fail.

The more you put in, the more you will get out.

Another inexpensive way to is don't forget the rear window of you car to put you website address on i have accessed several websites this way when i am looking to buy from someone who is local or wanting their services

You do see websites advertised on vehicles, although it is open to debate on how effective this would be. But it is free, and you cannot really lose anything can you.

It is not something I would like to do, and I would think people do not really read much whilst driving in any ways.

People might not read very much whilst driving but, while stopped at traffic lights maybe or stuck in traffic, even parked up behind someone. Or - look at the bigger picture - pedestrians!!

Any form of advertising is worth a shot - all marketing takes a positive outlook. You need to believe to achieve!

Off the top of my head (no pun intended) I have used a Hairdressing and beauty salon, a computer repairs person and a mobile dog groomer - just from the car advertising that comes to me instantly. Car advertising gives you a sense of security about the company, that they are local and care about their business.

I certainly wouldn't laugh it off.

I agree, anything is worth a try with advertising, because you know know what can happen.

My boss used to advertise the company on the back of his brand new merc. I thought it looked a bit naff, but he also had the same attitude of nothing ganined, nothing venture, and like many of you have said, it is free, and nothing to lose on it.

I see around where i come from taxis are covered in local ads now. The approach of getting it out there and getting it seen must be the way to go. How much does that cost for a taxi ad

I dont know about taxi costs but the adverts that are on like A-boards on those long trailers are around £125 a day inclusive of driver and fuel.
